Alapocas Run State Park

Ashland Nature Center of Delaware Nature Society
Located near Hockessin, we serve as the Delaware Nature Society's headquarters and the hub for all of its activities of education and natural resource conservation. The site is open to the public year-round, features an overnight lodge for school and public groups, a seasonal butterfly house, picnic area, and four self-guided trails through a variety of habitats. Programs are offered for all ages, as well as courses for teachers. The property includes more than 242 acres and is owned by the Mt. Cuba Center. Ashland is also home to the Ashland Hawk Watch, a joint partnership between the Delaware Nature Society and the Delmarva Ornithological Society.

Coverdale Farm Preserve of Delaware Nature Society
The 377-acre Coverdale Farm Preserve is comprised of 200 acres of Nature Preserve that is managed to conserve and enhance the biodiversity of the Appalachian Piedmont area of Delaware. Nestled alongside the Preserve is a 177-acre working farm that showcases regenerative agriculture methods. Farm livestock includes cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and turkeys. In addition to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, the produce, meat, and other products produced on the farm help feed our community and the planet. Coverdale Farm’s regenerative agriculture practices lead to healthier soil and minimize the impact of farming on the land. Coverdale Farm offers panoramic views of rolling countryside, vegetable gardens, a professional kitchen for culinary classes. Program offerings include farm-based and natural history programs and seasonal events.

DuPont Environmental Education Center of Delaware Nature Society
Located along the Christina River and on the edge of the Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge, DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) is where the city, river, and marsh meet. The refuge is 212 acres of freshwater tidal marsh adjoining the Christina River and is home to many birds such as American Bald Eagles, Virginia Rails, Belted Kingfishers, Wood Ducks and a wide variety of other nesting and migrating species. Also, American beaver, river otter, Snapping, Red-bellied, and Eastern Painted Turtles can be observed in the river and tidal pool. In summer, several kinds of colorful dragonflies swoop over the marsh in search of small insect prey. DEEC is open to the public year-round and features a Visitor Center with panoramic river and marsh views, a 10-acre ornamental garden, and a quarter-mile handicap-accessible pond loop that extends into the marsh. DEEC serves as a trailhead access to the 7 mile long Markell bike/hike trail from Wilmington to New Castle.

Fort Delaware State Park and Pea Patch Island
Built in 1859, Fort Delaware served as a Civil War prison which held close to 33,000 Confederate POWs during the Civil War. The Fort was active during the Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, and WWII. During this entire history, Fort Delaware never fired a shot in combat. Today, costumed interpreters take you back to the summer of 1864. Tour the parade ground, officers' quarters, barracks, kitchen, blacksmith shop, and ordnance room, hear stories of great escapes, and watch as the Fort's cannon fires a gunpowder charge!

Fort DuPont State Park
For DuPont State Park shares the story of coastal defense from the 1870s until World War II. Following World War II, Fort DuPont was turned over to the State of Delaware. It has been used for various purposes, including as the Governor Bacon Health Center. Portions of the land were dedicated as a state park in 1992. The park is bounded on two sides by the scenic Delaware River and the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Use the boat launch to get out on the water to fish and explore the Delaware River.

Greenbank Mills & Philips Farm
Experience early 19th-century Delaware in a 300-year-old gristmill, textile mill and farm site with an eighteen foot waterwheel powered by nearby Red Clay Creek. Greenbank Mills & Philips Farm is a living history museum with tours and programs focusing on a variety of aspects of the Early Republic (1790-1830): the gristmill, the textile factory, and daily life at the 1794 Philips House and 19th century farm with heritage livestock. Open Saturdays 10-4 April through October except holiday weekends. Greenbank Mills & Philips Farm is open through the week, year round, for group programs by reservation. Tours include the gristmill restoration, the Madison Factory textile mill, the 1794 Philips House, and the 19th century farm with heritage livestock.

Hagley Museum
Walk through Delaware’s industrial past! Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine, Hagley Museum is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry features outdoor exhibitions, including restored mills, a workers’ community, and the ancestral home and garden of the du Pont family. Included with your Passport is Nation of Inventors, an exhibition celebrating diverse stories of innovation by taking visitors on a journey through the “golden age” of American invention in the 1800s. The exhibit features more than 120 patent models from Hagley’s collection highlighting inventors from all walks of life.

Kalmar Nyckel Foundation
Adventure awaits! Discover the rich maritime and industrial history of Delaware in the Copeland Maritime Center—the riverfront home of KALMAR NYCKEL, The Tall Ship of Delaware. Permanent exhibits include a 3/4-scale model of the ship’s deck, an extraordinary collection of 73 model ships, 3D-animated film, and more. Kalmar Nyckel is a full-scale replica of the merchant ship that launched the colony of New Sweden in 1638. The ship offers sails, tours at special events across the Mid-Atlantic, and educational programs (April through October). Visit our site for cultural events and schedules. Here in 1776, New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties declared their independence from Pennsylvania and England creating the Delaware State. The Wilmington Blue Rocks join the Washington Nationals as a minor league Advanced-A affiliate after spending 26 of the last 28 seasons (1993–2004, 2007–20) as the Kansas City Royals Single-A Carolina League affiliate. The Blue Rocks play their home games at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium on Wilmington's Riverfront and are part of the Advanced-A Mid-Atlantic League.
