Read House & Gardens
Discover the historic Read House & Gardens, an architectural icon nestled among the cobblestone streets of Old New Castle. With its soaring windows, punch-and-gouge woodwork, and hand-painted scenic wallpapers, the Read House brings more than two centuries of inspired design into dialogue with historic grounds that overlook the Delaware River. And from the former du Pont family marina to the colonial-themed tap room in the basement, it was the site of fabulous parties during Prohibition too! We invite you to come and share in the experience.

Hagley Museum & Library
Walk through Delaware’s industrial past! Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine, Hagley Museum is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry features outdoor exhibitions, including restored mills, a workers’ community, and the ancestral home and garden of the du Pont family. Included with your Passport is Nation of Inventors, an exhibition celebrating diverse stories of innovation by taking visitors on a journey through the “golden age” of American invention in the 1800s. The exhibit features more than 120 patent models from Hagley’s collection highlighting inventors from all walks of life.
